CCH Receives 2012 Governor’s Sustainability Award for Achievement in Environmental Protection

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., November 30, 2012) – CCH has been honored with a 2012 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award for improving the environmental health and sustainability of the state. CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business is part of Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting, the global leading provider of tax, accounting and audit information, software and services. Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting is a division of Wolters Kluwer, a market-leading global information services company.

CCH was recognized for the transformation of its Chicago facility with a number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) approved renovations and green improvements over the past two years, including installation of high-efficiency roof and power systems, as well as increasing new landscape areas by more than 21,000 square feet. CCH also demonstrated green advancements in its printing processes in 2011, with 98 percent of its books and 100 percent of its journals produced under the Forest Stewardship Council or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. In addition, CCH developed a Sustainability Committee to monitor and measure its green advancements.

“We’re honored to receive this prestigious award and to be recognized for our efforts in improving the environmental health and sustainability of the state of Illinois,” said Doug Winterrose, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer for Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting. “By showing the many ways in which CCH approaches sustainability, this award helps drive greater awareness and visibility of these practices, while also increasing the potential for such practices to be embraced and repeated by other businesses.”

The award was presented by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC), a unit of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois. Since 1987, ISTC has presented Governor’s awards to public and private organizations in Illinois that have demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices that save money and help the economy. CCH was one of 21 businesses and organizations honored with the award. In a statement, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn praised CCH for its “commendable green practices” and for serving “as a model of environmental stewardship for residents, businesses and institutions throughout our state.”

About Wolters Kluwer and Sustainability

Wolters Kluwer promotes sustainability in the way we conduct our business. Wolters Kluwer operations – as well as the operations of our suppliers and customers – leave an environmental footprint in terms of energy, water and other resources. Minimizing that footprint underscores our efforts to transform our business so we can save resources and maximize our positive effects. As a global company we recognize our responsibilities to the world and the need to integrate sustainability into our operating process. Integration starts with our suppliers, who are expected to act in a responsible way by adhering to laws and the application of labor and human rights standards. We recognize that operating on a global scale means our products have an impact on the environment in many places around the world. Starting out as a paper-based company, we have transformed our portfolio to primarily high-quality electronic products and services. These solutions are developed to help customers work more effectively, saving them time, energy and resources. For the part of the portfolio that remains paper-based, Wolters Kluwer requires paper to be recycled or certified.
