CompleteTax Free Offers Free Tax Prep Beyond 1040EZ
First-time Filers, Taxpayers Eligible for Earned Income Credit, Social Security Recipients Among Those Who Could Benefit
(RIVERWOODS, ILL., January 25, 2010) – Everyone likes to get something for free and many people may be unaware that they are eligible to file their taxes at no cost using CompleteTax Free, according to CompleteTax®, an online tax preparation and e-filing service for the do-it-yourself taxpayer.
“CompleteTax Free supports the needs of 1040EZ filers, many of whom are first-time filers looking for a simple, easy way to file their taxes,” said Gary Lundberg, product management director for CompleteTax. “But it also goes much further to support those who could most benefit from free tax preparation and e-filing, including those with taxable Social Security income, the elderly or disabled and low-income workers.”
Some of the individuals who could qualify for CompleteTax Free may not be filing tax returns because they don’t owe taxes. However, by not filing, they’re also missing out on the opportunity to receive a tax refund based on income taxes they’ve already paid or to claim credits and deductions that could further boost their tax refund.
The free version of CompleteTax offers a simple, no-cost way for many of these individuals to see if they are eligible for tax breaks that could result in thousands of dollars of tax savings. Among the credits and deductions supported in CompleteTax Free are the:
- Retirement Contribution Credit;
- Earned Income Credit (EIC) for Taxpayers without Children;
- Additional Deduction for those over 65 or Blind;
- Credit for the Elderly or Disabled; and
- Making Work Pay Tax Credit.
CompleteTax Free also supports reporting of Social Security and Rail Road Retirement income.
“Many people will qualify to prepare and file their taxes for free, so it’s worth it to see if you do, and whether you are eligible for deductions and credits that can provide you with an even bigger tax refund,” said Lundberg.
