Tax Prep Partner from CCH Expands to Non-profit, Estate, Payroll Returns
(RIVERWOODS, ILL., November 10, 2009) – CCH’s Tax Prep Partner series has expanded to cover non-profit, estate tax and payroll forms. This innovative online resource guides professionals through the most common and complex areas of tax return preparation with line-by-line explanations, help with confusing terms, easy-to-find answers and a wide variety of practice aids. CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business, is a leading provider of tax, accounting and audit information, software and services (CCHGroup.com).
“Tax Prep Partner has been successful because it provides easy-to-grasp answers quickly, efficiently and economically,” said CCH Product Manager Scott Heimgartner. “It’s gratifying to expand the series to meet practitioners’ needs.”
Covers Seven Return Types
Tax Prep Partner modules are now available for a total of seven return types: Form 990, Form 1041 and Payroll forms, as well as Forms 1040, 1065, 1120 and 1120S, which were introduced last year.
At the core of each Tax Prep Partner is a set of simple, practice-oriented explanations, written in an accountant’s voice, relating to lines on the form. Answers include references to primary authority and links to filled-in forms, interactive research aids, calculators, charts, checklists and toolkits.
“This is an ideal resource for the seasoned professional who needs a quick answer when something new or unexpected arises on a return, as well as for the junior staff member who needs easy-to-understand guidance more frequently,” Heimgartner said.
Variety of Approaches
Tax Prep Partner offers a variety of ways to access its content, allowing for a variety of approaches.
A CCH A-Line-D™ (“aligned”) feature allows users to access explanations by simply typing in the form number, line number and tax year. They are then taken directly to the relevant explanation.
Another approach is topical, accessing the content through a menu of topics.
“This is a traditional research technique, and many people are comfortable with it,” Heimgartner noted.
There is also a “quick answer” point of entry into Tax Prep Partner’s answers through an Interactive Glossary – a searchable list of terms and topics. Each term links to a brief definition, with further links to explanations for each specific form where it is applicable.
Yet another point of entry is through Questions and Answers. Users simply open up a screen for each form with a wide range of questions, browse or use search functionality to zero in on the question they’re interested in, then open up the answer. Each quick answer has links to further explanations and any relevant practice aids.
“No matter how a question arises, the user has a way to get to an answer quickly, access any practice aids, settle the issue and continue with the return,” Heimgartner said.
