ProSystem fx Scan 3.0 from CCH Delivers Multiple Enhancements
(GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, November 6, 2007) – CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business and a leading provider of tax, accounting and audit information, software and services, has announced the release of ProSystem fx Scan 3.0 (CCHGroup.com).
The new release incorporates world-class technology resulting from a partnership with EMC Captiva software, and provides greater speed, stability and accuracy in this key technology for firms looking to save time and money by automating the conversion of paper documents into business-critical data and digitized images.
Runs as a Service
One basic change with many benefits is that ProSystem fx Scan 3.0 now runs as a service instead of an application, which promotes greater stability. For example, if there are interruptions to the server or workstation, Scan will automatically restart when the machine does.
This also leads to better error handling. If a file doesn’t process for some reason, Scan will stop processing that particular scan job and continue on to the next job.
This means more effective operation, especially in situations such as unattended document identification and data extraction processing occurring overnight. These efficiencies will lead to significantly improved performance throughout the system, especially on larger jobs.
“The bottom line is that there’s much less need for human intervention during a job,” said CCH Product Manager Stuart Gill.
Accuracy, Speed, Image Enhancement Improved
Accuracy has also been increased with ProSystem fx Scan 3.0 Catalog improvements, which have been implemented to allow for better and faster recognition. Improved image enhancement capabilities have created cleaner optical character recognition (OCR), more accurate form recognition and classification.
Additionally, speed is improved because Scan 3.0 fully utilizes the hardware it is installed on, taking advantage of dual core or quad core processors. This means it can run multiple processes simultaneously.
“You don’t have to wait for one job to process all the way through before Scan 3.0 starts to process the next one,” Gill said. “The larger the workload, the greater the speed improvement.”
ProSystem fx Scan 3.0 also offers other improvements in image enhancement, such as sharpening blurred images, cleaning grayscale on scans and better management of color images.
“Improved image enhancement along with expanded methods of identifying documents and forms will provide the ability to better classify documents,” Gill noted.
Better Review, Control
In Scan 3.0, dashboards have been added to allow users and administrators to manage and review the status of scan jobs. Users have expanded control over cover sheets and target sheets and batch printing.
A related improvement is the ability to set priorities on folders or specific files to be processed first.
“It’s now possible for an important job to ‘jump the queue,’” Gill noted. “A hot job for a partner doesn’t have to wait at the end of the line.”
Improvements for Bookmarks, Calculator
Improvements have also been made with PDFlyer. The bookmark functions of ProSystem fx Scan include the ability to colorize bookmarks for visual tracking, status and review processes and the ability to delete and restore unused bookmarks. In addition, Scan now integrates smoothly with other applications such as ProSystem fx Outsource and Tax, and Adobe 8.0.
The calculator tape function has also been enhanced. Users can keep the calculator always in view when scrolling between pages. Calculator operations also benefit from improvements in font management, control of background color and printing.
“Users will find improvements and enhancements across the board with this new release that greatly improves workflow,” Gill observed.
