CCH, CMI Create CCH® ChargeMaster Pro: First Complete Answer to CDM Management

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., June 25, 2007) – Hospitals now have an end-to-end solution for understanding and managing Charge Description Masters (CDMs) on an ongoing basis. CCH, a leading supplier of health law information and a part of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, has partnered with the ChargeMaster Institute (CMI) to create CCH® ChargeMaster Pro, the first complete answer to CDM management (chargemasterpro.cch.com).

“In today’s health care environment, reimbursement plays a vital role in the success of organizations, but maintaining an accurate and compliant CDM can be difficult, costly and time-consuming given the constantly changing environment,” noted Paul Gibson, vice president, Wolters Kluwer Law & Business. “By partnering with ChargeMaster Institute, we are able to offer a complete end-to-end solution for managing a CDM: CCH ChargeMaster Pro. The training and CDM evaluation services provided by the CMI staff empowers institutions to fully understand and manage payment codes, reimbursement rules and changing rates by training their staff to make corrections and updates with confidence.”

“By working with CCH, we can go beyond our normal training and evaluation services, by adding a powerful software tool and authoritative online database that puts institutions in control of updating their CDMs as regulations are issued and coding changes go into effect,” said Leonard Womack, founder and CEO of ChargeMaster Institute. “As a totality, ChargeMaster Pro is unlike anything else available.”

ChargeMaster Pro takes a three-fold approach that combines education in the form of lectures and hands-on training with a complete evaluation of existing codes conducted by CMI, reinforced by a powerful desktop CDM management software application designed to make the ongoing maintenance and compliance process more efficient.

Education

Conducted by CCH’s strategic partner, CMI, the ChargeMaster Pro educational program delivers hands-on ChargeMaster management practice and experience. Presented in a “lab” setting, this three-week program begins with instructional lessons and then advances to clinical sessions where students will work with their own facility’s CDM data.

Evaluation

Experts from CMI provide a thorough, line-by-line review of each institution’s CDM to ensure that it is using up-to-date information, covering all provided services and any possible compliance issues. They also examine charging and billing procedures to identify current practices that may lead to denied claims or inefficient charge capture. Upon completion of the review, CMI returns a fully reviewed CDM along with an Executive Report of their findings and recommendations, all supported by detailed documentation.

Software

CCH ChargeMaster Pro software operates as both a desktop application as well as an internet-based reference. It analyzes every line of code and suggests changes based on current, accurate data as well as top industry expertise. The user then decides, based on the hospital’s specific needs and circumstances, how to process each suggestion. ChargeMaster Pro provides detailed reports summarizing findings and recommendations, which can be implemented on a line-by-line item basis, departmental basis or globally.

ChargeMaster Pro works in conjunction with ChargeMaster Comply, CCH’s online knowledge base. ChargeMaster Comply provides all of the accurate data needed to maintain a clean CDM. It even sends weekly e-mails alerting users to all coding changes and when they will go into effect, ensuring they always work with the most recent regulatory information.
