Smart Charts Enhance CCH Blue Sky Law Reporter on the Internet
(RIVERWOODS, ILL., June 27, 2006) – Subscribers to the CCH Blue Sky Law Reporter on the CCH® Internet Research Network™ now have the benefit of CCH Smart Charts TM that let them quickly and easily compare state securities law information across multiple jurisdictions. CCH, along with Aspen Publishers, Kluwer Law International and Loislaw, is a part of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business (business.cch.com).
“Our exclusive Blue Sky Smart Charts will save valuable time and expedite research. The ability to create custom tables of specific content for just the states they need allows professionals to work smarter and more effectively,” said Peggy Hayner, CCH product manager.
Finding Answers
The Blue Sky Smart Charts provide information on the adoption by various jurisdictions of many Blue Sky law provisions for all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Smart Charts provide answers to specific questions on a variety of topics across multiple jurisdictions.
Users simply select a question they’re interested in, then choose any combination of jurisdictions they need.
A click of the mouse then brings up the answers to questions such as:
- Has the state adopted the Uniform Securities Act of 2002?
- Does the state have NSMIA provisions for broker-dealers and agents?
- Did the state adopt the federal exemption for Qualified Institutional Buyers?
- What are Blue Sky fees for licensing as they apply to broker-dealers, agents, investment advisers, investment adviser representatives and federal covered investment advisers?
- What are Blue Sky registration, exemption and federal covered securities fees?
- Who is the official agent in each jurisdiction to receive service of process?
- What securities manuals, if any, does the state recognize for purposes of the transactional exemption from registration for any nonissuer distribution of an outstanding security?
With each answer, the Smart Chart also provides a link to the full text of the applicable laws, regulations, policy statements, administrative orders and interpretive opinions in the CCH Blue Sky Law Reporter. Any changes that have occurred in the last thirty day s are highlighted in yellow with the option to extend highlighted changes out to as far as 120 days.
“We are continuing to build the Smart Charts library and are soliciting user feedback on what additional topics they would find useful,” Hayner said. “By listening to our customers, we expect to make Smart Charts a preferred way to conduct Blue Sky research.”
Choice of Format
CCH Smart Chart results can be viewed in either a “chart” or “matrix” format. In chart format, results are shown state-by-state, with answers, comments and links to authority running across the screen. This format can be exported to Word or Excel ®. In matrix format, jurisdictions run across the screen at the top as the horizontal axis while topics run down the screen on the left as a vertical axis. Results fill in the resulting grid. This format can be exported to Excel only.
“Export is easy and it’s easy to switch from one format to another, to save and retrieve results and to make them printer-friendly,” Hayner said. “With Smart Charts you not only find the answers but you have them in a highly useful form.”
