With Bright Light Focused On Auditing, CCH Delivers Authoritative 2002 U.S. Master Auditing Guide
(RIVERWOODS, ILL., April 24, 2002) – Accounting professionals have a new resource that examines the broad spectrum of modern auditing, from complex auditing standards to special hot topics such as fraud auditing, with the release of the brand-new 2002 U.S. Master™ Auditing Guide. The Guide offers concise and helpful information on performing and managing both external and internal audits in an affordable paperback reference.
The new Guide from CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of tax and accounting information and software, joins the growing series of CCH U.S. Master titles, including the flagship U.S. Master™ Tax Guide now in its 85th year of publication. ($65, 696 pages. To order, call CCH at 1-800-248-3248 or visit the CCH Online Store at onlinestore.cch.com.)
In development for the past three years, the 2002 U.S. Master Auditing Guide arrives at a time when accounts of fraud, bankruptcy and investor losses in the news highlight the need for a renewed focus on the fundamentals of auditing.
"During the 1990s, auditing was often seen as a loss-leader to more lucrative accounting consulting services, but with increasing concerns over proper accounting controls and financial reporting, there’s increased interest in the true skills of auditing and getting back to the basics," said Joseph Gornick, an executive editor for CCH’s Federal and State Tax Group.
Comprehensive, Straightforward Reference
The Guide goes well beyond other references that focus solely on financial auditing by examining compliance and operational auditing engagements and other consulting areas and emerging issues, such as forensic auditing, attestation services, IT audits, governmental audits, fraud auditing and assurance services.
Combining comprehensive explanation and analysis with practical discussion and examples, the Guide provides a solid review of the auditing discipline, covering the steps involved, the issues and processes faced in auditing engagements, the types of auditing engagements, ethical considerations and principles.
It includes quick reference and easy-to-understand aids such as checklists, flow charts and graphs that illustrate practical concepts and processes.
Sample reports, documents and practice tips are generously provided to assist the reader in gaining a real-world understanding of this critical and evolving discipline.
The five-part Guide provides detailed discussions on:
- Managing public accounting engagements, including an overview of the standards, ethics, legal liability and quality assurance;
- Financial auditing, including planning the audit, performing fieldwork, reaching conclusions and preparing reports;
- Other attestation services, including reviews and compilations, special reports, newly proposed assurance services and forensic accounting;
- Internal auditing, covering the internal auditing profession and department, performing the internal audit and reporting considerations. Also discussed are operational audits, compliance audits, contractor/construction audits, fraud examinations, environment and quality audits;
- Tools that auditors use today, including integrating sampling into audit tests and information technology.
