CCH Adds Focused Online Cpe Courses For Time-pressed Professionals

(Riverwoods, ILL., February 12, 2001) – Accounting, legal and financial planning practitioners will find it easier than ever to fit continuing professional education into their schedules with new online learning courses from CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of tax and business information and software. The courses are available at the CCH Learning Center website at http://tax.cchgroup.com/learningcenter. The CCH Learning Center is offered in partnership with The Learning Network, Inc., provider of Internet delivered interactive education and training courses and services. (For more information or to purchase a course, visit the CCH Learning Center website at http://tax.cchgroup.com/learningcenter.)

Six of CCH’s new offerings are one-credit courses focused on topics of immediate value to clients and designed for time-pressed professionals, according to CCH Federal and State Tax group marketing manager Gail Portugal.

"Busy professionals sometimes have to meet their continuing education requirements over their lunch hours, on plane trips or between meetings with clients," Portugal noted. "We selected these topics and developed them with concise mini-course presentations, so a practitioner can take a course in the morning and save a client money that afternoon."

While users can complete entire courses online, they also have the convenient option of downloading a file, which they can read offline on their computers, or print out and read anywhere.

"Someone can log on and download and print the course, then do all the studying offline. But, they still have the advantage of taking the test and receiving credit instantly when they log back on," Portugal noted.

New Online Offerings

The following six one-credit courses have recently been added to CCH’s online offerings:

  • 401(k) Plans From the Employer and Employee Perspective — compares the benefits and disadvantages of the 401(k) plan from the point of view of the business owner and of the 401(k) participant.
  • Accounting Methods — addresses important developments in accounting methods and their impact on both small inventory-based businesses as well as accrual basis taxpayers generally.
  • Gifting as a Tax Strategy —  shows ways that clients can use the gift tax and other exclusions to minimize estate taxes for beneficiaries.
  • Sophisticated Charitable Giving — focuses on several innovative and cutting edge charitable giving arrangements that provide tax benefits to a donor.
  • Tax Strategies for Investors — identifies strategies investors can use to help minimize tax liabilities, including strategies for online traders.
  • Writing Off Start-Up and Travel and Entertainment Expenses — shows how to maximize the write-offs allowed for starting a new business and travel and entertainment expenses.

In addition to these one-credit offerings, CCH has added to its Learning Center the four-unit course, Independent Contractor or Employee? This basic-level course reviews and clarifies the complex rules for determining a worker's classification, which in turn has multiple tax implications.
