CCH, Baker & McKenzie Will Partner
On Global Project
Agreement Combines Worldwide Legal Experience, Authoritative
Resources for Companies Doing Business Around the World
(CHICAGO, ILL., February 9, 2000) CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider
of tax and employment law information and software, and Baker & McKenzie, the premier
global law firm, announced today that they will join forces on a project designed to
provide employers and their legal counsel with the most comprehensive, reliable legal
insight and analysis available on international labor and employment law issues.
The agreement leverages Baker & McKenzies unparalleled legal expertise and
geographical coverage of employment relationships with CCHs 87-year history of
providing authoritative and critical legal information to business professionals around
the world.
Through this partnership, CCH will license content from publications of
Baker & McKenzies Global Labour, Employment, & Employee Benefits Practice
Group to expand coverage of global employment issues in CCH print and Internet (http://hr.cch.com) products, as well as
co-brand new products for human resources professionals, legal advisors and other business
professionals. New products developed by CCH will focus on the specialized information,
insight and solutions companies need as they expand their businesses into more complex and
culturally diverse markets.
Baker & McKenzie's Global Labour, Employment, & Employee Benefits Practice
Group consists of more than 315 attorneys worldwide who represent multinational
corporations in all aspects of employment-related litigation, benefits and international
executive transfer issues. Beginning later this year, the Groups
publications, including the Worldwide Guide to Termination, Employment
Discrimination & Workplace Harassment Laws and The Global Employer
newsletter will be marketed by CCH. These publications, written by Baker & McKenzie
attorneys who are on the frontlines of employment and labor issues in countries around the
world, will serve as the centerpiece for a co-branded web site to be launched by
years end.
"There are enormous international opportunities for U.S. businesses today, but
employment-related issues and complex human resources environments create significant
risks for companies operating in a global economy," said Jim Gallas, publisher, CCH
Health and Human Resources. "This agreement allows two of the legal communitys
most respected and trusted organizations to meet this demand with the most authoritative
resources available."
"Because the laws governing non-U.S. jurisdictions are often more protective of
workers rights than U.S. law, companies expanding internationally cannot give short
shrift to labor and employment issues," said Gerald L. Maatman, Jr., co-coordinator
of Baker & McKenzies Global Labour, Employment, & Employee Benefits Practice
Group. "Successfully managing international employment concerns is a critical
prerequisite to reaping the economic rewards of globalization."
