COMPLETETAXä Allows Consumers To Complete And E-file Federal And State Tax Returns For Only $7.50. Nation’s Leading Tax Authority Uses the Ease of the Internet to Bring Fast, Secure, Easy Tax Preparation and Information to Consumers

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., December 9, 1999) – Filing income taxes will be a lot less painful for individuals and small business owners in 2000. Credit will go to CompleteTax™, an easy to use, low cost Internet-based tax preparation and filing service developed by CCH Business Owner’s Toolkit, a leading online source of tax information and software tools. Available to both individual taxpayers and small businesses beginning January 12, 2000 (www.completetax.com or www.toolkit.cch.com), CompleteTax, will allow users to complete and file a federal and a state tax return for as little as $7.50.

"For more than 85 years, CCH has been providing tax professionals with the information and software they need to effectively do their jobs," said Martin Bush, CPA, CCH publisher. "Through CompleteTax, CCH Business Owner’s Toolkit is ensuring that expertise is extended to small business owners and individual taxpayers, helping them complete and file their income tax return forms – and get any refunds coming to them faster."

Easy Start to Finish

Ease of use, helpful information and guidance and security go hand-in-hand with CompleteTax. Consumers will have everything they need at their fingertips – an easy, downloadable CompleteTax Organizer, plain-English help online and fast tax return preparation and electronic filing by a trusted and secured source.

"For many taxpayers, just thinking about completing their tax returns can be stressful. Tax rules are extremely complex and many individuals have no method of effectively organizing their tax information. As a result, trying to fill out the forms can be an excruciating experience," said Bush.

Getting Organized

The CompleteTax Organizer provides income tax filers with an interactive, easy-to-use method of organizing all the relevant information required to complete their federal and state personal or small business income tax returns, including employment, deduction, investment and retirement information.

In the personal information section, users are asked a series of basic questions about their personal tax situation. Based on their answers, the CompleteTax Organizer is customized to present only those topics, sections and follow-up questions relevant to that individual.

As filers answer questions in each section, CompleteTax keeps track of the progress and where additional information is required to complete each section accurately.

Plain English Tax Help

CompleteTax users also benefit from CCH’s experience in explaining tax rules and regulations to Americans for more than four generations and from its unique position as the primary tax research provider to Internal Revenue Service employees. CompleteTax will provide filers with a comprehensive, fully searchable on-line tax reference library, providing detailed information on pertinent tax issues –from how to handle adoption expenses to defining a W-2 form – all in plain English.

Specialized Help for Small Business

Small business owners will especially benefit by using CompleteTax in conjunction with CCH’s other small business resources. Available in December, CCH will publish Business Owner’s Toolkit Tax Guide 2000ä , a handy one-volume print reference available in major bookstores such as Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon.com. Buyers of the book will be able to file one federal and one state return through CompleteTax at no charge.

In addition, small business owners can rely on Ask Alice, that provides valuable, practical help on the CCH Business Owner's Toolkit site (www.toolkit.cch.com).

 Safe and Secure

Users can work on their taxes at their own pace, choosing to complete an entire filing in one sitting or exit and return at a later date. Data is encrypted using Secured Sockets Layer protocol, a recognized Internet security standard.

Once a filer has completed the organizer and is ready to file, CompleteTax uses sophisticated software to calculate and produce the final tax returns. After review and approval by the taxpayer, CompleteTax will electronically file the return with the IRS and any of the 26 states that have e-filing capabilities. If the taxpayer prefers to file a paper copy of the return, CompleteTax will transmit a file to users, enabling them to print and mail their own return.

Pricing and Availability

CompleteTax will be available January 12, 2000, at www.completetax.com. The fee for electronically preparing and filing one federal and one state return is $7.50.
