CCH Sets New Industry Standard For Fast, Easy Authoritative Tax Research On The Internet Exclusive 2-Step Search, Context-Sensitive Tools are Among New Features of CCH InternetSM Tax Research NetWork™

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., May 4, 1999) – CCH INCORPORATED, a leading provider of tax and business law information and software, today released a new version of its popular CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork (http://tax.cchgroup.com) that significantly improves tax research and sets new industry standards for intuitive, easy-to-use Internet products.

The first Internet-based tax news and research service, CCH Internet Tax Research Network, now features an exclusive 2-step search, improved navigational tools and faster loading. The enhancements ensure CCH subscribers are able to find the timely and authoritative answers they need quickly and efficiently. In addition, CCH added valuable new content and features to its flagship tax research products, including Standard Federal Tax Reporter, Federal Tax Service and its state tax reporters.

"Ongoing improvements and new features ensure CCH’s continued leadership on the Internet, and that our customers benefit by that leadership," said Catherine Wolfe, director of marketing, CCH Federal and State Tax (FAST) Group. "Since first moving to the web with tax materials in 1996, we’ve worked to enhance the research experiences of our customers. The new version of CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork supports CCH's ongoing, dynamic approach to bringing customized, easy to use tools to tax, legal and librarian professionals."

2-Step Searching

The most significant change to the CCH system enables professionals to get to answers quickly with "2-step searching."

Step one is to check one or more publications on a screen to be searched. (It’s possible to drill down into each publication to further target a search if desired.) Step two is to type in the search terms on the very same screen used to target the search. The user no longer has to move to a separate search screen, which saves time and makes the entire research session flow more smoothly.

"We’ve found that requiring as many as four or more steps to execute a simple search as other systems do was unacceptable," said Wolfe. "We believe that our 2-step searching is the fastest research on the web."

Less is More

Users will notice major changes in the network's toolbar, with fewer buttons needed to navigate and conduct effective research. Most important, navigation and command buttons are now "context sensitive," appearing on the screens only where they are needed, making the CCH Internet tax service even easier to learn and eliminating the possibility of issuing useless commands by mistake.

Zip Through Research

Users also will find there’s more zip to their research sessions. CCH has reduced screen graphics in CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork by 87 percent. The reduction in graphics allows for faster log-ons and faster screen download times. As a result, subscribers can experience a 20-percent increase in speed, depending on Internet connectivity.

What Researchers Need, When and Where They Need It

The speed and directness of 2-step searching and context sensitive tools are supplemented by other features CCH has changed or introduced to improve and speed research.

  • From anywhere within a document, enter a free-form citation search, hide the document navigation bar or call up the toolbar
  • Print entire IRC sections in one document
  • Search by case name in Citator
  • Add multiple documents – all at once – to the Keep List
  • Review search results faster now that viewed documents appear in a different color
  • Print all or selected documents right from the Search Results List
