New CCH Safety Management Handbook Stresses Practical Workplace Solutions

Filled with ready-to-use forms, checklists, model policies that help reduce violations, fines

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., September 30, 1998) -- CCH INCORPORATED, a leading provider of human resources and workplace safety law information and software, has announced the publication of the CCH Safety Management Handbook, a practical resource designed for those charged with workplace safety. The new Handbook provides plain-language guidance on what safety managers, supervisors, business owners and others need to do to prevent costly workplace accidents and avoid the workers' compensation claims, litigation and high settlement costs that come from violation of OSHA regulations.

The CCH Safety Management Handbook is a one-volume, 8 1/2 by 11 inch, loose-leaf publication that is updated four times a year. The Handbook is designed to be a cost-effective and timesaving tool for businesses of all sizes, but especially for small businesses. CCH notes that companies with 10 or fewer employees currently account for 40 percent of OSHA inspections and fines paid by such companies account for more than 25 percent of the OSHA total. However, the time they can devote to researching OSHA requirements is limited.

The Handbook clearly lays out how companies must deal with topics such as accident and emergency response, personal protective equipment, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, bloodborne pathogens, machine guarding, hazard communication, ergonomic hazards, workplace violence, slips, trips and falls and OSHA-mandated training.

Throughout, the emphasis is on achieving results, and achieving them quickly. The Handbook is full of sample compliance policies and programs, model reporting forms, ready-to-use checklists, reference charts and fact sheets. For virtually every topic discussed, a tool is provided to make compliance and documentation easier and quicker. Users benefit from the time savings built into these ready-to-use materials.
