Wolters Kluwer Law & Business Brings Together Essential Resources in Trial Attorneys Integrated Library

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., August 20, 2007) – Attorneys now have a one-stop electronic resource from Wolters Kluwer Law & Business that will provide them with expert guidance on evidentiary issues and exclusive insights into members of the federal judiciary. The Trial Attorneys Integrated Library brings together judicial reference material and evidence treatises from Aspen Publishers with an extensive primary source database on the CCH Internet Research NetWork . Aspen Publishers (www.aspenpublishers.com) and CCH (business.cch.com) are part of the Wolters Kluwer Law & Business group.

The Trial Attorneys Library consists of two components: a Judicial Research component and an Evidence component. The components are available separately or together.

“Litigators have two challenges as they prepare for trial: know the evidence and know the judge,” said Kristin Colquhoun, product manager. “In the Trial Attorneys Integrated Library we’ve brought together sources that make it easy to research the judge – his or her demeanor, decisions and background – and to evaluate why evidence might be admitted or excluded.”

Comprehensive Information on Federal Judiciary

The Directory of Federal Judges, combining Aspen’s print titles Almanac of the Federal Judiciary and Directory of Federal Court Guidelines, is the most comprehensive, one-stop site for information on the federal judiciary.  It contains biographical information on 2000 judges in the federal court system, with financial disclosure statements and Senate questionnaires, in their entirety, available at the click of a mouse. Candid, anonymous lawyers’ evaluations of federal court judges provide insight into how to present a case before the assigned judge, as do noteworthy rulings, summaries of media coverage and listings of publications by the judge. Moreover the noteworthy rulings listed are linked to the full text of the case decisions.

Also in the Judicial Research component are courtroom guidelines that provide courtroom staff contact information and procedural requirements of federal district judges, including the procedures they mandate on such essential matters as discovery, scheduling conferences, alternative dispute resolution, voir dire, marking of exhibits and jury participation.

Three Indispensable Treatises

The Evidence component of the Trial Attorneys Integrated Library contains three treatises: Wigmore on Evidence, New Wigmore: A Treatise on Evidence and Evidence: Practice Under the Rules. Case citations in these treatises will link to the full text of the case providing access to over 20,000 decisions.

Wigmore on Evidence is the preeminent treatise on the American law of evidence, providing exhaustive and authoritative guidance on the admissibility of evidence at trials, with coverage of the common law, the history and development of evidence rules, the Federal Rules of Evidence and state evidence rules and codes. Matchless in scope and depth of coverage, Wigmore provides clear explanations of the settled law and comprehensive analysis of more complicated evidentiary problems. Relied on by state and federal courts as the ultimate authority for important evidence questions, Wigmore is an invaluable aid in determining the admissibility of evidence in federal and state courts.

The New Wigmore is a contemporary rethinking of evidence law that brings to the subject the same depth of analysis that characterizes Wigmore. It provides the deep, analytical insight and expertise you need to persuade the court on today’s most difficult evidentiary issues and includes helpful charts comparing state and federal approaches. New Wigmore also provides the historical and policy underpinnings you need to make the fullest and most persuasive arguments in an environment of ever-changing evidentiary issues. New Wigmore lets you make your strongest arguments by delivering in-depth insights into Selected Rules of Admissibility, Evidentiary Privileges and Expert Evidence.

Evidence: Practice Under the Rules is an a ccessible yet comprehensive guide to the admissibility of evidence in federal courts. This valuable tool offers clear practical explanations; logical organizations; and extensively researched citations and parenthetical explanations focused on the Federal Rules of Evidence. Evidence: Practice Under the Rulesprovides practical, expert guidance on such crucial issues as new standards governing the admissibility of scientific evidence; the Confrontation Clause and the admissibility of hearsay; testimony on social frameworks and syndromes; admissibility of prior offenses; refreshing witnesses’ memories; repair and rehabilitation of impeached witnesses; nonconviction misconduct; and privileges and waiver.
