About the Authors

D. Reed Freeman, Jr. is a partner in the advertising and marketing practice group of Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, Washington, D.C. He focuses on all aspects of consumer protection law, including privacy, data security and breach notification, online and offline advertising and direct marketing. Freeman previously served as Chief Privacy Officer and Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Affairs at Claria Corporation, was a member of the Collier Shannon Scott law firm, and worked as a staff attorney in the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. He is the co-author (with Lewis Rose) of the CCH Advertising Law Guide.

J. Trevor Hughes is an attorney specializing in e-commerce, privacy, and technology law. He is Executive Director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the world’s largest association of privacy professionals, and a member of the first class of Certified Information Privacy Professionals. Prior to entering private practice, Hughes served as director of privacy and corporate counsel for Engage, a leading online media and software company, and as corporate counsel for UnumProvident, where he focused on legal issues associated with advertising and online insurance transactions. He is a frequent speaker on privacy and e-commerce issues at conferences around the world.
