DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP Chooses ProSystem fx Document from CCH

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., November 6, 2006) – The Boston-area accounting and business advisory firm of DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP (http://www.dgccpa.com), has chosen ProSystem fx Document from CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business, to pull together and manage the wide range of documents they need in their dynamic practice. CCH is a leading provider of tax and accounting information, software and services (CCHGroup.com).

DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP (DGC) started moving from paper to electronic documents four years ago, but the firm lacked a way to effectively manage the results, according to Tammy M. Yu, IT and Project Manager for DGC.

“Windows Explorer couldn’t really do the job. There were problems with saving and organizing documents properly, a lack of access controls and no way to automatically implement document retention and purging policies,” Yu noted.

Handles All Needs

After putting together a task force, checking references and sitting through demos from a number of companies, DGC chose CCH ProSystem fx Document.

“Document was always on the list,” Yu said, in part because the firm used and liked a number of CCH solutions – ProSystem fx Tax, Engagement and Practice Management.

But ProSystem fx Document went beyond simply tying together other CCH applications. E-mail was a case in point.

“Before, accountants were keeping client e-mail in their own individual folders,” Yu said. “Now, e-mail can easily be integrated into the client files, where it belongs, and extraneous copies can be deleted.”

The ability to manage many types of electronic documents – not just tax returns and engagements – was also key in DGC’s final decision.

“We wanted a firm-wide solution,” Yu said. “We didn’t want one system for client data, then something else for HR, Administration and IT. After talking with firms that had adopted Document, we were convinced that it could handle all our needs.”

Additions Expand Applications

DGC also found that CCH ProSystem fx Document would meet their needs even better with the optional Client Portal module for data sharing, PDFlyer and ProSystem fx Scan, CCH’s scanning solution.

“From an IT perspective, the Client Portal is a superior solution for working with clients and exchanging data,” Yu said. “Everything is secure and encrypted, which makes it more comfortable for everyone, and file size is not an issue, as it often is when using e-mail to send files back and forth.”

“With ProSystem fx Scan and PDFlyer, our operations will be more streamlined, because of the ability to efficiently manage the scanning of physical documents and handle changes to PDFs. In addition, the single login for document management eliminates the need to keep logging in and out of the tax and audit programs,” Yu added.

Forging a Partnership

Choosing a document management system is a major decision, and DGC found that CCH was willing to partner with them during the entire process.

“We made CCH go through a lot of demos and asked them to tweak their proposal to meet our specific needs,” Yu said. “We have a very good relationship and found them to be very responsive throughout.”

“We understand that our customers have diverse needs and priorities,” said Stuart Gill, CCH product manager. “Our goal is to serve as their strategic partner – to listen, understand their needs and to provide solutions.”
