Hot, New Final Sec. 199 Regs Focus of CCH Audio Conference

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., May 25, 2006) – Since 2004, Section 199 of the Internal Revenue Code has contained an attractive deduction for domestic manufacturers, but almost every phrase in this provision has provoked questions by practitioners seeking to take advantage of it for their clients, according to CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business and a leading provider of tax information, software and services. Now, only days after the IRS has issued interpretive regulations, CCH is presenting a 100-minute audio seminar on Sec. 199, featuring James M. Kehl, commentator, educator and author of the CCH book, Practical Guide to the Sec. 199 Deduction, on Thursday, June 1, at 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central (CCHgroup.com/Audioconferences).

“James Kehl has analyzed and followed Sec. 199 developments as closely as anyone in the country,” said CCH Managing Editor Richard Jarvis. “He’s the perfect guide to the new regulations and the ongoing questions about this important new deduction.”

Presentation Highlights

In his presentation, Kehl will explore the extent to which the new guidance from the IRS answers questions that have arisen about the lucrative but complex deduction. Kehl will also spotlight the questions that are still unanswered and how practitioners should handle all of those clients who used extensions this year to allow extra time to take advantage of Sec. 199. In addition, Kehl will:

  • Discuss and walk through actual examples of calculations used for Sec. 199;
  • Analyze current developments concerning Code Sec. 199;
  • Suggest what taxpayers can do right away to maximize their use of Sec. 199; and
  • Present creative and innovative ideas as to Code Sec. 199’s application.

The audio conference will include a live question-and-answer session.
