Streamlined Sales Tax Is Topic of New CCH Audio Conference

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., February 16, 2006) – The Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) will be the topic of a live 100-minute audio conference on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern; 1:00 p.m. Central presented by CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business and a leading provider of tax information, software and services (tax.cchgroup.com). Two experts in the field, John C. Healy of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Bruce Nelson, director of Tax Policy for the Colorado Department of Revenue, will bring attendees up to date on emerging developments and questions about this initiative that is already changing the fundamental way tax compliance for interstate transactions is being handled.

“Practitioners have to examine a number of questions about the SST,” said Richard Jarvis, CCH managing editor. “Should they take advantage of amnesty programs? What are the possible consequences of registering with the Streamlined Sales Tax, including the state income tax implications? How should companies set up a compliance program? All these will be addressed in the audio conference.”

In the seminar, Healy and Nelson will discuss the basic issues behind the SST and how it affects concepts such as nexus; outline the complexities that have become part of the SST and that will affect ongoing compliance; point out unanswered questions that remain despite the ongoing work of state officials; discuss the impact the SST will have on a wide range of businesses; and look toward the future with an eye toward what to expect next. In addition, they will address participants’ concerns in a live question-and-answer session.
