CCH Has 2005 Tax Legislation Covered with Authoritative Resources for Professionals

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., July 29, 2005) - CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of tax information and software, announced today that it will publish comprehensive explanations and analysis of the significant tax provisions contained in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act of 2005 once the bills pass and are sent to President Bush for his expected signature.

The Energy Act provides more than $14.5 billion in tax incentives to oil, gas and renewable energy companies over a ten-year period to boost conservation efforts, increase domestic energy production and expand the use of alternative energy sources, such as solar, wind, ethanol, bio-mass and clean-coal technology. But consumers, members of the housing industry and car and appliance manufacturers can also benefit from the provisions of the new law. The Transportation Act contains a handful of miscellaneous provisions covering items such as the extension of fuel taxes, repeal of the harbor maintenance tax on exports, modification of the gas-guzzler tax as it applies to limousines and a cap on the excise tax on fishing rods.

CCH Coverage

Complete coverage of the tax legislation is provided to subscribers of the CCH Tax Internetsm Research NetWork™, as well as print and CD subscribers of CCH federal tax services. In addition, free online tax legislation updates at tax.cchgroup.com are provided via CCH Tax Briefing newsletters and daily legislative updates.

In addition, CCH will publish two books on the tax-related provisions of the Energy Act and present an audio conference offering analysis of the legislation and the opportunity to earn CPE credit. Assuming passage, these books will also contain the tax-related provisions of the Transportation Act:

  • Law, Explanation and Analysis of the Energy and Highway Tax Acts of 2005 For the tax professional, this comprehensive book offers detailed explanation of the new law along with practical guidance from CCH’s analysts and contributing expert practitioners to help tax professionals make sense of and apply the changes enacted in the 2006 tax legislation. It also reproduces the text of the Internal Revenue Code as amended by the new laws and pertinent committee reports and Joint Committee on Taxation descriptions. Also provided are valuable tables of Code sections amended, effective dates and other helpful finding lists. (Approximately 450 pages, $45, plus tax, shipping and handling. Quantity discounts and school adoption pricing available.)
  • Conference Report of the Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005 For each section of the Act, this publication states the prior law, the provisions of the bills passed separately by the House and Senate and the agreed-upon final provision. This Report indicates legislative intent and is particularly helpful pending the issuance of final regulations in areas where the Code is unclear. (Approximately 390 pages, $25 plus tax, shipping and handling. Quantity discounts available.)
  • Live Audio Seminar: Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005, Analysis and Planning Considerations CCH principal federal tax analyst Mark Luscombe, JD, LLM, CPA will lead seminar participants through the highlights of this legislation with an in-depth look at some of the planning considerations it presents. The 100-minute audio conference will take place Friday, August 19, 2005 at 2 p.m. Eastern; 1 p.m. Central. (Participation requires only a telephone connection and a $299 per-site fee. Two hours of CPE credit are available for an additional $25 per person.)
