CCH HR-How-to Series Adds Workplace Violence Prevention, Recruiting & Hiring and Flexible Benefit Plans

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., January 11, 2005) — CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of human resources information and software, today announced the immediate availability of three new titles in its popular HR How-to series: Workplace Violence Prevention, Recruiting & Hiring and Flexible Benefit Plans. Like others in the series, these new books offer practical approaches to complex workforce issues employers and human resources specialists increasingly grapple with.

“The HR How-to series has been well received by HR professionals because it cuts through legalistic language to present information on topics that HR professionals confront every day in a matter-of-fact, helpful way,” said Kristen Kaplan, product manager for CCH. “These books help employers deal with some of the toughest issues they face and show them constructive, legally compliant solutions.”

HR How-to: Workplace Violence Prevention

Attorneys Lori Rosen and Lisa Milam-Perez deal with the many faces of violence in the workplace, from seemingly harmless horseplay to bullying to violent assaults and potential terrorist attacks. They provide a model workplace violence policy and show how to create disaster preparedness plans.

“Employers may not be able to control all the factors in workplace crime and violence, but they can take actions to help prevent the acts,” the authors note.

HR How-to: Recruiting & Hiring

Attorneys Kathleen Kennedy-Luczak and Carol E. Thompson show how to comply with the laws that apply to recruiting and hiring, how to create job descriptions, how to locate qualified candidates and how to screen and interview candidates.

“The more effective your hiring is, the less likely that employees will need extensive training, and the better they will fit their jobs… . Furthermore, effectively hired employees are more likely to turn out a high quality product,” according to the authors.

HR How-to: Flexible Benefit Plans

Attorneys Barbara S. Moore and Tulay S. Turan provide clear guidance on how to set up a flexible benefit plan, how to administer flexible spending accounts, how to establish health savings accounts and how to handle election changes.

The authors note that flexibility is key to motivating a diverse, multi-generational workforce.

“Flexible benefits encourage each employee to decide what his or her needs are and select from a menu of options those benefits that best meet his or her needs,” they write.
