CCH Offers November 5 Audio Conference to Bring Tax Practitioners Up to Speed on New Laws

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., October 26, 2004) – CCH Tax and Accounting (CCH), a leading provider of tax and accounting law information, is sponsoring an audio conference devoted to the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 and the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004 on Friday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. Central time. Understanding the New Tax Changes: Expert Guidance from CCH Tax and Accounting on the New 2004 American Jobs and Working Families Tax Acts is a 100-minute audio conference that offers tax professionals a quick and cost-effective way to get up to speed on two major pieces of tax legislation, ask questions of an expert analyst and earn two hours of CPE credit.

CCH has followed the new laws through every stage of the legislative process and has devoted thousands of hours to reporting and analyzing these complex additions and changes to the tax code, which provide many opportunities and challenges for taxpayers and their advisors. Participants will get a clear overview of the sweeping 2004 tax legislation and will learn what they must do about it, right now, to benefit their clients or business. They will also be able to submit questions to the presenter live during the conference. An unlimited number of firm members can participate in the conference for a single per-site charge of only $295.

Understanding the New Tax Changes will feature CCH Principal Federal Tax Analyst Mark Luscombe, J.D., CPA, a nationally recognized tax expert, author and speaker. The most senior member of the CCH federal tax group, Luscombe is a critical member of the CCH tax legislation team that regularly tracks and analyzes legislation. He is the editor of the CCH Law, Explanation & Analysis series and authors a regular column for TAXES—The Magazine, as well as a biweekly tax column for Accounting Today. In addition, the members of the business press frequently turns to Luscombe for his insight and straightforward explanations of complex individual and corporate taxation topics. Luscombe also is a featured speaker at CPA society and bar association meetings throughout the year.

"Mark has lived with these tax provisions for the months – in some cases, years – that it has taken to move from proposal to final law. I can’t think of anyone better qualified to break down this legislation for practitioners and answer their questions," noted CCH Managing Editor Richard Jarvis.

Topics covered in the conference include:

  • Who is affected by the changes to the tax code
  • What the impact will be of the heightened focus on tax shelters
  • How the new rules on autos impact charitable donations
  • The heavy SUV deduction
  • Why the AMT is still an issue
  • The significance of the one-shareholder-per-family rule for S-corps
  • How companies with foreign operations are affected
  • Retroactive provisions that can be put to work right away for tax planning
  • Changes that require immediate action
  • Winners and losers under the new laws
  • Practitioner-client confidentiality and what it means in practical terms
  • What you can do right now to help your company or your clients take advantage of these changes.

Participating firms will be able to download Luscombe’s presentation and other information on the tax act changes in advance of the conference.
