CCH Tax and Accounting Expands ProSystem fx Office Suite with ProSystem fx Document, Paperless Document Management Solution

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., October 19, 2004) – CCH Tax and Accounting (CCH), a leading provider of tax and accounting productivity software and services, and a Wolters Kluwer company, has expanded The ProSystem fx®Office Suite with ProSystem fx® Document, a firm-wide document management solution for accountants wishing to move to a paperless office.

Developed by the accounting and business advisory firm of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP (HA&W) under the brand name SIAN®, ProSystem fx Document provides an electronic repository for documents, enabling streamlined workflows, enhanced customer service, automated document retention policies and lower costs for storing paper documents.

"With the addition of this robust, market-proven solution, CCH Tax and Accounting further strengthens its position as the leading provider of integrated, customer-driven productivity solutions for professionals," stated CCH Tax and Accounting CEO Kevin Robert.

Wolters Kluwer announced the acquisition of SIAN for the CCH Tax and Accounting group on October 19. CCH Tax and Accounting chose SIAN because it offers the most complete document management system in the accounting market, going beyond paperless engagements to provide a firm-wide paperless solution.

"We’re thrilled to be offering a proven product, developed by leading accountants for accountants, to help professionals realize the phenomenal benefits of firm-wide electronic document management," Robert said.

"By implementing a firm-wide digital solution, companies will be able to significantly grow their business while controlling their costs," noted Dan Simms, Managing Partner and CEO of HA&W. "At HA&W, we grew our revenue by nearly 50 percent and reduced staff costs by more than 15 percent as a result of the full adoption of the paperless process."

Manages Full Range of Documents

ProSystem fx Document manages the full range of documents found in an accounting practice – from tax returns to client memos to employee records and e-mail. It has the robust capabilities that firms need to meet their needs, not only today, but in the future. Document frees firm staff members from dependence on physical pieces of paper, allowing access to any document from any location. It also automates document retention, allowing the firm to implement firm-wide consistent document retention policies, making sure that they retain documents for mandated periods of time and then dispose of them properly.

Document also reduces the costs associated with creating and storing paper documents – the costs of storage rooms, materials and supplies.

"The biggest benefit is that by converting to a paperless office and reengineering the work process, people work together more efficiently, and can deliver better service to their clients," said Simms.

Full Integration with ProSystem fx Office and CCH Content

CCH plans for ProSystem fx Document to fully integrate with its award-winning ProSystem fx Engagement paperless engagement software and other modules in The ProSystem fx Office suite. Document already tightly integrates with ProSystem fx Tax, and additional integration with other elements in the suite and the CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork will follow.

"With the addition of ProSystem fx Document to our product suite, we are supporting the ongoing evolution of the paperless office," said Ernest Zoumot, Director of Product Management for CCH Tax and Accounting. "With ProSystem fx Engagement, we offer tools optimized for the specific tasks involved with trial balance, audits and compilations, in support of the paperless goal. With Document, we have a new solution that works with that and builds on it to allow firms to carry the same benefits to all facets of their practice."

From Document Management to Knowledge Management

"We see ProSystem fx Document as a firm-wide solution for making the most of documents – both those created by programs in The ProSystem fx Office suite and those created elsewhere," noted Robert. "In addition, with use of CCH@Hand technology, firms will be able to intelligently manage electronic research documents from a variety of sources and connect them with hyperlinks. We see firms using CCH technology to move from document management to knowledge management, capitalizing on the expertise that is their greatest asset."

Best Practices Consulting Services to be Part of ProSystem fx Document

In addition to the software component of ProSystem fx Document, CCH and HA&W will offer firms a full range of services to make the switch to a paperless environment as smooth and productive as possible. These include installation, firm-wide consulting on best practices and training.

"We know from experience that going digital is a significant step. It involves firms committing themselves to a fundamental change in order to get revolutionary results," Simms noted.

Robert added, "We want to be full partners with our customers throughout the process, ensuring that they achieve the dramatic improvements in workflow and client benefits that this technology has to offer."
