CCH Book Has Latest Toy Safety Guidelines

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., March 13, 2003) – To make sure that toys truly are a source of joy, CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of business law information and publisher of the CCH Consumer Product Safety Guide has published Toy Safety: Make Playtime a Safe Time. (53 pages, $5.50 single copy price. For more information or to order, call 1-800-248-3248 or visit business.cch.com/onlinestore.)

Toy Safety is geared to consumers — parents and any other individuals —concerned with selecting toys that are safe for children. Written in conjunction with SAFE/Safer America for Everyone, a consumer advocacy group headed up by Ann Brown, former Chairperson of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the pamphlet incorporates the age guidelines for toys issued by the CPSC on November 18, 2002 — the agency's first revision of policy in that area in several years.

In addition to recommendations for toy purchases based on a child's age, abilities and developmental levels, the pamphlet includes sections on avoiding common injury-causing hazards, as well as what to do if a toy is recalled. It also provides handy checklists of appropriate toys for each specific age group, such as infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

"Toy Safety is an ideal vehicle for toy manufacturers and retailers to demonstrate their concern for the proper selection and safe use of their products," said Georgia Koutouzos, CCH consumer law analyst.
