Franchise Desk Book Comes On CD-ROM, Internet From CCH

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., July 10, 2002) A useful state-by-state, quick reference for franchise lawyers is now available in convenient electronic format. The Franchise Desk Book from CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of business law information and software, is the CD-ROM and Internet version of the American Bar Association's Franchise Desk Book, and features special links to the CCH Business Franchise Guide. (For more information, call CCH at 1-800-248-3248 or visit the CCH Online Store at onlinestore.cch.com.)

Portable and affordable, the Franchise Desk Book is a ready reference to state franchise laws and their interpretation. It is unique in its comprehensive scope – a compendium of commentary on all major issues of franchise law, including registration, disclosure and relationship issues. It provides accurate and quick answers to many basic franchise questions and a framework for comprehensive solutions to more difficult issues.

"The new Franchise Desk Book is quickly becoming a standard, ready reference for lawyers specializing in franchising," said John W. Arden, associate publisher for CCH’s Business and Finance group. "We’re thrilled to make the Desk Book available in electronic formats so it will be even more accessible and useful."

State-by-State Treatment

While it includes text of state laws and regulations, the heart of the Franchise Desk Book is the discussion of franchise law by more than 30 leading practitioners who offer a "behind-the-scenes" look at state laws. The organization is uniform from state to state, so that similar subjects in different states can be easily compared and contrasted.

Annotation topics include constitutionality, choice of law and forum, definition of franchise, exemptions, application, registration, disclosure, remedies for disclosure or registration violations, criminal culpability for disclosure or registration violations, termination of franchise agreement, nonrenewal, remedies for wrongful termination or nonrenewal, transfers and other relationship issues.

Franchise Desk Book also contains the full text of the FTC Franchise Rule, with commentary and annotations.

Links to Business Franchise Guide

Users of Franchise Desk Book who also subscribe to the CCH Business Franchise Guide gain an extra benefit.

From links in the Franchise Desk Book, they can retrieve the full text of laws, regulations and cited cases from the Guide. (Both subscriptions must be in the same medium – both on CD-ROM or both on the Internet – for linking to take place.)

"The Franchise Desk Book and the Business Franchise Guide complement one another and together they make a remarkably complete franchise library," Arden said.
