(RIVERWOODS, ILL., October 2, 2001) – If you’re heading to court with a case involving products liability, you’ll want to be well-prepared with the benefit of insights, strategies and experiences from a seasoned expert. Now, CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of business law information, is offering a new treatise: The Law of Products Liability, 4th Edition, designed to give litigators comprehensive and practical information to help them succeed in court. (For more information or to subscribe to The Law of Products Liability, call 800-449-6435 or visit http://business.cch.com/onlinestore.)

Written by Marshall Shapo, an expert in tort law and the laws of product liability, the treatise is a research tool that brings over 30 years of legal developments, insights and analysis to the user. The Law of Products Liability analyzes products liability law in more than 30 detailed chapters, relating the various areas of the law to one another.

The guide, available in print, on CD-ROM or the Internet, summarizes the principal developments in every major area of products law, focusing on the facts of cases and presenting the law in the context of how cases come to the lawyer’s door.

Supporting the analysis is meticulous citation to thousands of decisions. And, as an added advantage, all citations in The Laws Products Liability treatise are linked to the corresponding text in CCH Products Liability Reports, a reporter service that provides full-text of laws and court opinions relating to products liability. For those who subscribe to both products in either CD or Internet format, a click of the mouse will take you from the treatise to full-text of a cited law or court decision in the reporter.

A Creative Source of Ideas for Litigators

The Law of Products Liability is designed to give litigating lawyers new and creative ways to approach the law and such topics such as theories of liability, proof of causation, warnings and defenses based on the plaintiff’s conduct.

Besides carefully describing the law, the guide points the way to creative arguments, digging below the surface of the rules of products liability law for their rationales and providing information and insights to help lawyers make persuasive arguments in court based on those rationales.

The Law of Products Liability provides comprehensive topical coverage, including in-depth treatment of:

  • Theories of Liability
  • The Defect
