New On-line Tools Help Make Consumer Privacy Easier For Banking, Securities, And Insurance Professionals

NEW ORLEANS, November 28, 2000—As financial services professionals hurry to meet the deadlines imposed by privacy regulations, they’ll find help with several new Internet tools unveiled today by Bankers Systems, Inc. at the BAI Retail Delivery show in New Orleans. The new on-line tools will help institutions create tailored privacy disclosures, track state-specific legislation, and train their employees via the Internet.

The new offerings expand Bankers Systems comprehensive line of privacy solutions by addressing very specific needs of financial institutions. PrivacyDocs actually builds disclosures on screen as it guides users through easy-to-answer questions. To help financial institutions tailor the text for their disclosures, it selects additional questions based on their answers. Customers can watch their documents being created as they work, and can make edits on-line. Universal Disclosures will take tailored disclosures even further. For banks that offer insurance and securities products, Bankers Systems will help them decide if a single, universal privacy disclosure is right for them. If it is, compliance analysts will gather information from the financial institutions to develop the disclosure with specific text that addresses the business needs of the institution and responds to the compliance requirements of the multiple regulators.

For financial institutions that operate in multiple states, PrivacyStateWise uses the Internet to offer professionals an economical, time-efficient way to track the latest privacy issues in every state—all in a single source on-line. Finally, Employee Privacy Training Sessions will help educate front-line employees about critical privacy policies by training them in their own offices via the phone and the Internet. More information and links to all the new tools are available at Bankers Systems’ web site and at PrivacyHeadquarters.com, a free resource for privacy help and information.

"Whether an institution is in banking, securities, insurance, or all three, we’ve zeroed in on specific tools to help them with the privacy regulations that affect their businesses," said John Bryant, Vice President of Marketing for Bankers Systems. "With our unique ability to monitor federal and state legislation on a regular basis and with our close ties to CCH INCORPORATED in securities and NILS in insurance, we believe we’re the only company that can offer and support this universal view for all three business entities."

Earlier this year, Bankers Systems established itself as a premier provider of financial privacy solutions when it created PrivacyHeadquarters.com in May. An internal survey of users done by the Glia Group for Bankers Systems gave it the highest rating of any site that provides privacy-related information on the web. Bankers Systems was one of the first providers of privacy training products, including the Privacy Policy Development Toolkit and Privacy Policy Training Toolkit. In July, Bankers Systems introduced docCreator, which allows institutions to create tailored disclosures via the Internet—beginning with the privacy disclosures in PrivacyDocs. Next, Bankers Systems plans to offer a Spanish-language Privacy Disclosure in early 2001, so that institutions can better serve the needs of their Spanish-speaking customers.

"We’ve worked closely with our customers and their legal counsel to understand their challenges and to provide the specific solutions they need—whether its on-line tailored disclosures, cost-effective training, or information on the latest changes to federal and state-related privacy regulations," said Bruce Hagberg, Director of Strategic Initiatives for Bankers Systems. "That’s what makes Bankers Systems’ new on-line tools so valuable to professionals in today’s converging marketplace."
