COMPLETETAX™ Will Offer Consumers Internet Tax Preparation, E-filing Of Both Federal, State Returns For Only $7.50 Total In 2001

CCH Will Add Refund Anticipation Loans, Expand Features to Low-Cost
Internet Tax Preparation ASP

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., September 7, 2000) – CCH INCORPORATED (CCH), a leading provider of tax law information and software, said today that it is gearing up its low-cost CompleteTax online tax preparation application and e-filing service for 2001 with new features and functionality, including refund anticipation loans for those who want quick refunds. In addition, CompleteTax (www.completetax.com) will maintain its low price, allowing individuals and small business users to complete and e-file both their federal and state income tax returns for a total cost of $7.50.

"The response by individual consumers and small businesses to the debut of CompleteTax this tax year was very encouraging," said Martin Bush, publisher, CCH Business Owner’s Toolkit. "They were drawn to the idea that CompleteTax is not only very easy to use, but also provides access to a library of tax information for immediate answers to questions they may have while completing their forms. In addition, they have the benefit of CCH’s 87-year reputation as a trusted provider of accurate and authoritative tax information and software for tax professionals."

CompleteTax was launched by CCH for the 2000 tax season. The application was jointly developed by the company’s Business Owner’s Toolkit (www.toolkit.cch.com) unit, which provides tax and other business information for small business owners, and CCH Tax Compliance, which offers the market-leading professional tax preparation software, ProSystem fx Tax.

Now Web-Enabled

New for 2001 will be the ability for consumers to complete their entire return online without having to download any software to their own computers. The easy to use CompleteTax Organizer allows individual and sole proprietor filers to organize quickly and accurately all of the tax information for their returns. Since the organizer customizes itself based on responses to simple interview questions, filers need only enter information that is relevant for their specific tax return. Customers may choose to complete the information in one session and immediately submit to CCH for processing, or save their information and complete the returns at a later date.

Each filer’s tax return information is password-protected on secured servers. Transmission of tax return information is encrypted using Secured Socket Layer protocol, a widely recognized Internet security standard.

Quick Refunds

Also new for 2001, CompleteTax users who expect to receive a federal income refund may apply online for a refund anticipation loan. They will receive online approval and receive the dollars within a few days of their electronic return being accepted by the IRS.

Low Price

CompleteTax will maintain its low 2000 prices. The total cost for calculating, preparing and e-filing/printing both the federal and the state (if allowable by the state) returns will remain at a low $7.50.

Other Reliable Features

Among the features of CompleteTax designed specifically for the individual and small business filers:

  • Comprehensive Tax Help Resources – Leveraging CCH’s 87 years of experience in explaining tax rules and regulations, CompleteTax provides filers with an easy to understand, fully searchable online tax reference library.
  • Specialized Small Business Help – Small business owners will especially benefit by using CompleteTax in conjunction with CCH’s Business Owner’s Toolkit Tax Guide 2001™ print reference (available online at www.toolkit.cch.com and through major booksellers later this year). Buyers of the book also will be able to file both a federal and a state return through CompleteTax at no charge.
  • Electronic and Print Filing Options – Once a taxpayer is ready to file, CompleteTax uses sophisticated software to calculate and produce the final tax returns. After approval by the taxpayer, CompleteTax will electronically file the return with the IRS and the appropriate state (if allowed by the state). Taxpayers who prefer to file a paper copy of their returns can print them from CompleteTax.
