Customization, Flexibility Marks Newest Enhancements For Standard-Setting CCH^® Internet Tax Research Network™

(RIVERWOODS, ILL., May 8, 2000) – Extensive customization and even greater flexibility are the key words that describe a newly enhanced CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork (http://tax.cchgroup.com), available this month from CCH INCORPORATED, a leading provider of tax and business law information and software. Subscribers to the standard-setting Internet service now can create a customized "My CCH Desktop Favorites" tax research page, perform more actions from their desktops prior to logging in, work easily with the complex IRS actuarial factors table and find new options for viewing documents and search results.

CCH will debut the new Internet research features at the New York CPA Finance, Business and Technology show (booth #201), Javits Center, New York City, May 10-12.

"These new features, especially the ‘My CCH’ enhancement, allow the researcher to create a more efficient desktop system that is customized for his or her approach to research and practice needs," said Catherine Wolfe, director of marketing, CCH Federal and State Tax Group. "CCH continues to define the standard for authoritative, Internet-based tax research, with even greater focus on flexibility and personalization."

‘My CCH’ Page

The most striking enhancement to CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork (CITRN) is the ability for users to populate a new "My CCH" page with their favorite research publications from the extensive array of libraries offered on the Internet service. A practitioner might place federal tax publications, a selection of state tax reporters and pension and payroll materials in her "Research Publications" area, for example. Those publications could then be searched individually or in any combination.

The "My CCH" page also holds CCH’s taxTracker News^sm, a federal and state news service customized to the user’s individual interests, plus a set of research tools and links to other CCH sites and services. Users can add customized taxTracker News searches, view an archive of past search results and set e-mail news delivery options from the customized news section of the "My CCH" page.

The documents retrieved in research sessions now can be stored in multiple "keep lists" and assigned to multiple research folders. The keep lists are accessible from the "Research Tools" section of the "My CCH" page, as is a list of recent searches, making it simple to revisit results and rerun searches.

Login Express, Seamless Integration

Additional new features will be evident from the moment tax professionals log in with CCH’s "Login Express" facility. Researchers can not only bypass the regular login screen, but also can initiate searches, specify a document to be retrieved or launch their customized news page at the same time they connect to the Internet. Users of Microsoft Word versions 97 and higher can even use Login Express to create hotlinks between citations in Word documents and the full text of tax materials on CITRN.

More Seamless Integration

Seamless integration between CCH products also has been enhanced. Users of CCH CD-ROM research materials or CCH ProSystem fxâ Tax compliance software can launch these applications from Login Express. This includes the ability to link from a line item within forms in CCH’s ProSystem fx Tax to an explanation of the item in the 2000 U.S. Master Tax Guideâ on CITRN.

Better Access to Client Letters, Actuarial Factors

Also new are a facility for sorting and searching the Client Letters that are included in most CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork subscriptions and quick retrieval of IRS actuarial factors.

The CCHâ Client Letter Toolkitä lets professionals review the tools available to them by type of entity, allowing them to see which ones pertain to small businesses, for example. Or they can sort them by a tax category, such as education credit or Roth IRA.

"This is patterned after a system developed for our Election and Compliance Toolkit that has been well received by our subscribers," Wolfe said.

The new CCH IRS Actuarial Factors finding tool provides the ability to retrieve actuarial factors from a massive IRS table – over 1,000 pages long in its printed format – simply by entering a few variables.

"The lookup capability totally transforms what practitioners typically have to do when using the actuarial factors table," said Wolfe. "It will save users a lot of time and spare them a great deal of tedium when they need to apply an IRS actuarial factor to a client situation. It’s simple, direct and to-the-point."

More Help Options

CCH also has expanded and improved the types of help available to users of the CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork. The basic help system now allows users to search for answers and view help topics without leaving their CITRN screen. Power Search classes give detailed instruction in the best search techniques and strategies, while a new Search Tips Archive provides short, practical pointers about searching, using a question-and-answer format. In addition, CCH offers tele-training classes through which users can earn CPE credit. These help options can be accessed from the user’s new "My CCH" page.

More Display Options

CCH Internet Tax Research NetWork users will now find that all of their search terms will be highlighted in yellow within documents. They will also be able to sort the results of searches by publication if they prefer, rather than by the relevancy ranking that is set as the default. Like the settings for other search and display options, this preference can be conveniently accessed from the "My CCH" page.
