Wolters Kluwer Purchases State Tax Institute, Accounting Publications Will Become Part Of CCH

(CHICAGO, April 21, 1999) – Wolters Kluwer U.S. (WKUS) said today that it has acquired State Tax Institute (STI). A publisher of newsletters and other products for tax professionals, STI will become part of CCH INCORPORATED, Riverwoods, Ill., a leading provider of tax and business law information. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

STI's products include several popular state tax related newsletters and ancillary products, including Sales & Use Tax Alert, State Income Tax Alert and Property Tax Alert. The purchase allows CCH's Federal and State Tax Group to expand further its extensive line of authoritative and timely state tax information for accounting and legal professionals. CCH currently offers more than 70 state tax products via Internet, online, CD-ROM and print.

"The State Tax Institute publications have a base of loyal subscribers who will bring even greater breadth and depth to CCH's customer base," said John Marozsan, president and CEO, CCH. "The publications allow us to offer more timely information in very dynamic areas of state taxation, such as sales, use and property taxes. In addition, the newsletters include analysis and tips from some of the leading authorities in the field of state taxation, providing a powerful complement to our state tax reporters."

Sales Tax Institute was created in 1991 specifically to develop and sell moderate-priced tax materials to corporations and tax professionals. Subscribers of its monthly and bimonthly newsletters include corporate tax professionals, controllers and accounts payable managers. Its editorial staff will remain with CCH.

Wolters Kluwer U.S. is a unit of Wolters Kluwer nv, Amsterdam. Its North American operations include a number of highly respected companies specializing in tax, legal and regulatory publishing, services and software, including Aspen Publishers, CCH Canadian, CCH INCORPORATED, CCH Tax Compliance and Legal Information Services.
